US Embassy in Lebanon recommends Americans to evacuate before a crisis starts
As tensions rise between Israel and Lebanon-based, Iran-backed Hezbollah terrorists, the U.S. Embassy in Lebanon has issued a dire warning to American citizens in the region. Following a deadly rocket attack that resulted in the deaths of 12 individuals at a children’s soccer field, the embassy has urged Americans to evacuate Lebanon as soon as possible to ensure their safety.
In response to the escalating situation, airlines such as Air France, Lufthansa, Swiss International Air Lines, and Eurowings have suspended flights to and from Beirut, anticipating a potential outbreak of war. The U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Consular Affairs, Rena Bitter, emphasized the importance of having a crisis plan in place and utilizing commercial transportation while it is still available.
Assistant Secretary of State Rena Bitter expressed the gravity of the situation, stating, “We recommend U.S. citizens develop a crisis plan of action and leave before a crisis begins.” She emphasized the necessity of being prepared to shelter in place for extended periods if commercial air travel is not an option.
Furthermore, Bitter highlighted the U.S. government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of American citizens in Lebanon. She urged Americans to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to stay informed about travel alerts and updates.
In light of the heightened tensions and the looming threat of Israeli retaliation against Hezbollah, Bitter advised against non-essential travel to Lebanon. She also encouraged individuals with upcoming travel plans to reconsider, given the potential risks posed by the escalating conflict in the region.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have already taken action in response to the rocket attack, allegedly conducting a drone strike in southern Lebanon that resulted in the deaths of two Hezbollah terrorists. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his cabinet are deliberating on the appropriate military response to the attack.
The IDF has released footage of a drone from Lebanese territory being shot down over Israel’s waters, further illustrating the escalating tensions between the two sides. Additionally, Israel’s Ministry of Defense has engaged in discussions with U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin regarding the recent rocket strike on Majdal Shams village.
Minister Gallant of the Israel Ministry of Defense informed Secretary Austin about the use of an Iranian rocket equipped with explosives in the attack. The evidence presented by the IDF suggests Hezbollah’s responsibility for the deadly assault, further complicating the already fragile situation in the region.
As the situation continues to unfold, the risk of further violence and conflict looms large over Lebanon and Israel. American citizens are strongly advised to heed the warning issued by the U.S. Embassy and evacuate the area promptly to ensure their safety and well-being in the face of escalating tensions and potential military confrontation.
