War veteran criticizes Democratic opponent for criticizing military book.
War veteran Sam Brown is facing backlash from his Democratic opponent’s campaign and the Nevada Democratic Party for selling a book detailing his journey to recovery from a nearly fatal war injury. Brown, a retired Army captain and Purple Heart recipient, was severely injured by an IED explosion during a deployment in Afghanistan in 2008, leaving his face severely burned.
Last week, Johanna Warshaw, communications director for Jacky Rosen for Senate, accused Brown of engaging in a “grift” for promoting his book. In response to Brown’s post about his book, Warshaw commented, “Don’t worry Sam, have a feeling there will be plenty of time for you to promote your latest grift after November 5th.”
In addition to Warshaw’s comments, the Nevada Democratic Party also joined in and labeled Brown’s book as a “grift.” Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Katharine Kurz posted on social media, “New grift just droppeddddd,” further adding fuel to the controversy.
Sam Brown, however, has remained resilient in the face of these accusations. His campaign manager, Wilkinson, condemned the insults directed towards Brown and all military veterans, stating, “It’s not just an insult to the Browns, it’s an insult to all NV veterans for their sacrifice and service to the country.”
Wilkinson further emphasized Brown’s commitment to integrity and respect, highlighting that Brown “will never stoop so low, never insult our veterans, and never let partisan politics influence how he treats other people.”
In response to the criticism, Brown’s campaign vowed to focus on delivering for Americans who have been adversely affected by the policies of the current administration. With the upcoming election, the battle for the Nevada Senate seat is heating up as experts believe it could be a key seat in determining the balance of power in the Senate.
According to the Cook Political Report, the Nevada Senate race is considered a “toss up,” alongside other pivotal races in states like Michigan, Montana, and Ohio. The outcome of these races could ultimately shape the future political landscape of the United States.
As the campaign intensifies, both Brown and Rosen are expected to ramp up their efforts to secure the support of Nevada voters. While accusations and controversies may continue to swirl around Brown’s book, the focus remains on the issues that matter most to the people of Nevada and the nation as a whole.
Stay tuned for more updates on the Nevada Senate race as the candidates make their final push towards Election Day.
