Whistleblowers reveal John Kerry used different email account while working for government.
Former Secretary of State John Kerry, while serving as the nation’s top diplomat during the Obama administration, utilized a pseudonymous government email address, according to whistleblowers who revealed this information to Senators Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson.
The whistleblowers disclosed that Kerry used the email address “SESTravel1@state.gov” during his official capacity as Secretary of State.
Senators Grassley and Johnson expressed their concerns regarding Kerry’s compliance with federal records laws and regulations pertaining to his official email communications. They also questioned whether responses to Freedom of Information Act requests have included the email address in productions to requestors.
Since 2015, the senators have been vigilant about the State Department’s compliance with federal records laws, particularly after the investigations into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a non-government server for government business.
Additionally, the senators have raised concerns about President Biden’s use of a non-government email during his tenure as vice president and the utilization of pseudonymous government emails for official business.
In a recent letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Grassley and Johnson brought to light allegations that Kerry and his State Department obstructed the FBI from executing arrest warrants on individuals in the United States who were allegedly supporting Iranian financial efforts to develop weapons of mass destruction.
Grassley and Johnson reiterated their questions to Blinken regarding Kerry’s interference in the FBI’s efforts, as well as inquiries about Kerry potentially mishandling classified information in communications with Iran’s Foreign Minister.
As part of their letter to Blinken, the senators demanded clarification on the use of the SESTravel1@state.gov email address by Kerry and requested access to all records associated with that email address.
They also questioned the State Department’s process for storing and archiving Kerry’s government email records, inquiring if the email address was solely used for official business and if it involved communication with foreign government officials, specifically regarding the Iran Nuclear Deal.
Grassley and Johnson have set a deadline of July 1 for Blinken to provide responses to their inquiries.
