‘White Dudes for Harris’ Raises $4 Million with Celebrity Guests on Zoom Call.
A group of men calling themselves “White Dudes for Harris” recently came together for a marathon Zoom call aimed at garnering support and raising funds for Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign. This gathering took place on Monday night and managed to attract over 130,000 participants over the course of three-and-a-half hours, ultimately collecting a staggering $4 million for Harris’s campaign.
The idea for this event stemmed from the success of a previous Zoom call organized by the group “Win With Black Women,” which gathered more than 40,000 individuals and raised $1 million for Harris shortly after President Biden endorsed her following his decision not to seek reelection. Subsequently, numerous identity-focused Zoom calls have emerged to show support for Harris.
During the “White Dudes for Harris” call, a variety of speakers took the stage to share personal anecdotes and reasons why they are backing Harris, who, if she secures victory in November, will become the first non-“dude” to hold the position of President of the United States. Notable figures who participated in this rally included potential vice presidential candidates like Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, as well as Hollywood actors such as Sean Astin, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Mark Hammil.
Even the iconic actor Jeff Bridges, known for his role as “The Dude” in the cult classic film “The Big Lebowski,” made an appearance. Bridges expressed his excitement and support for Harris, highlighting the significance of having a woman president and passing accolades to Joe Biden for endorsing her.
Following Bridges, Pete Buttigieg, the transportation secretary and a potential running mate for Harris, addressed the attendees. Buttigieg emphasized Donald Trump’s inadequacy for the presidency and stressed that Harris is the most suitable candidate to hold him accountable for his failures. He also acknowledged the positive momentum that Harris’s candidacy has generated among Democrats, noting the unparalleled excitement present in the campaign.
Other speakers on the call, such as Governor Walz, criticized both Trump and JD Vance, emphasizing their shortcomings and dangerous policies. Walz urged the audience to diminish the influence of these individuals while campaigning for Harris, branding them as threats to society and global stability.
At the start of the call, organizer Ross Morales Rocketto acknowledged the criticism surrounding the event, particularly given the historical context of white male gatherings in the United States. Rocketto expressed his desire to reclaim the support of white men for Harris, highlighting the necessity of including them in the campaign and preventing their continued allegiance to the MAGA right.
The “White Dudes for Harris” rally served as a platform for prominent figures to advocate for Harris’s candidacy and mobilize resources in anticipation of the upcoming election. Through engaging speeches, personal stories, and a shared enthusiasm for change, the event demonstrated the diverse and united front working towards a common goal: securing victory for Kamala Harris in the presidential race.
