Whitmer says people who doubt Biden’s chance of winning Michigan are wrong.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer recently took to social media to address critics who question President Biden’s ability to secure the swing state of Michigan. In a post on X Monday, Whitmer vehemently dismissed any claims that Michigan was out of reach for the President, stating, “Anyone who claims I would say that we can’t win Michigan is full of shit. Let’s go.”

This statement followed a Politico report detailing a call between Whitmer and Biden’s campaign, during which Whitmer reportedly expressed frustration over being considered a potential replacement for Biden following his lackluster debate performance. While Whitmer supposedly disavowed efforts to remove Biden from the race, she did raise concerns about Michigan’s winnability for the President.

Like many Democrats, Whitmer’s reaction to Biden’s performance mirrored a wave of concern within the party over his ability to compete with former President Trump in the upcoming election. The speculation surrounding Biden’s candidacy has prompted some Democrats to rally in his defense, pushing back against calls for replacement.

The Biden campaign has been quick to assert their confidence in the President’s candidacy, maintaining a positive outlook on his chances in the race. Despite the backlash following the debate, key figures within the Democratic party have stood by Biden, attributing his performance to factors like preparation overload.

Former House Majority Whip James Clayburn and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have both voiced their support for Biden, emphasizing the importance of integrity in contrast to Trump’s dishonesty. Pelosi emphasized this point during a recent appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union,” highlighting the need to counter falsehoods with truth and integrity.

As the 2024 election looms closer, the debate surrounding Biden’s candidacy continues to intensify. With key battleground states like Michigan at the forefront of the discussion, the upcoming months promise to be crucial for both the Biden campaign and the Democratic party as a whole.
