WWII veteran receives applause and cheers after emotional speech
Sergeant William Pekrul, a decorated WWII and D-Day veteran, stole the show on the third night of the Republican National Convention (RNC) with his emotional speech, “Make America Strong Once Again.” At 98 years old, he captivated the audience as he shared his poignant war experiences and unwavering patriotism.
Pekrul didn’t hold back in criticizing President Biden, expressing his distress over the current state of the country. He spoke of being pushed around by China, the chaos of terrorists in the Middle East, and the overwhelming situation at the southern border.
Despite the challenges, Pekrul firmly declared, “America is the greatest nation in the history of the world.” He reminisced about returning from war in Europe, kissing the ground, and thanking God for his safe homecoming.
The RNC crowd erupted with applause and chants of “USA” in honor of Pekrul as he recounted the horrors of WWII, including his memories of facing the Nazis during the Battle of the Bulge. He expressed gratitude for the divine deliverance from evil, though acknowledging the loss of many friends along the way.
Pekrul’s bravery and sacrifice were recognized with two Bronze Stars and a Silver Star for his WWII service. Locally, he was honored as the Grand Marshal of Milwaukee’s Veterans Day Parade in 2019.
During his speech, Pekrul made it clear where his allegiance lies by expressing strong support for President Trump. He boldly stated that if Trump were to return as commander in chief, he would enlist without hesitation, ready to storm any beach for his country.
As the RNC moved into a more solemn tone with tributes to the fallen service members in Afghanistan, the audience remained on their feet in respect. Gold Star families shared heartfelt words about their loved ones, with the names of each fallen hero resonating through the crowd.
Notable speakers such as Donald Trump Jr., Kai Trump, and VP nominee J.D. Vance added to the fervor backing President Trump. The unifying energy leading up to Trump’s acceptance speech on Thursday night was palpable, with moving stories like that of the UNC fraternity brothers who protected the American flag during a campus demonstration.
As the RNC continues with its theme of “Make America Great Once Again,” the anticipation for Trump’s address to formally accept the Republican Party’s nomination for president is at an all-time high.
